Jindabyne Public School is situated in an expanding population area. While the winter tourist industry is still predominant, all year tourism is gaining in importance for the area's economy.

The ensuing growth trend has had a significant influence on the development of the school community. Recent census statistics indicate that there is a larger proportion of young families in the area than is found statewide. Approximately sixty-seven per cent of students live in outlying rural areas including the ski resorts of Charlotte's Pass, Thredbo and Perisher Valley.

The school mission statement, revised in 2000 by the School Council, states: "Jindabyne Public School has high expectations and goals for all learners.
