Thalgarrah serves a large area in northern NSW, stretching from the upper Hunter to the Queensland border and from the coast to as far west as Bourke. The centre is located in the New England heartland 18 kms from the university city of Armidale. Established in 1976, it occupies the site of a former small school. Access to the Swallowfield Wildlife Refuge and other properties and sites provides a range of venues in which students can complete many different field and environmental programs. The centre's location is ideally positioned to take advantage of some of the State's most spectacular national parks. These include Oxley Wild Rivers NP, New England NP and many other parks and nature reserves.
