Montgrove College was founded by PARED (Parents for Education) in 1999 to allow families in the Western Suburbs of Sydney access to the personalised system of education offered at other PARED schools in the Hills district and Northern Suburbs.

PARED was established in 1982 as a personal initiative of parents and educators to operate schools and other educational projects which assist parents in their task as primary educators.

The School's personalised system of education is based on a number of principles:

• The education of children is primarily the responsibility of parents and is determined to a great extent by the personal example of the parents themselves.

• Students benefit most when there is harmony between home and school; therefore parents and teachers should try to grow in the qualities they wish the students to acquire.
