Woodbury was formed with the goal of setting up the first wholly ABA school in Australia for children with autism and related disorders.

This vision was embraced by a group of dedicated parents who themselves had tutored their children with autism in home based ABA therapy programs.

Woodbury Autism Education and Research is a company limited by guarantee and is a registered charity.   Donations to Woodbury of $2.00 or more are tax deductible.  It has a Board of three directors and an energetic steering committee who have worked tirelessly to achieve its goal.

Behaviour Analysis is a scientific approach to understanding behaviour.  ABA is the use of behaviour analytic methods and research findings to change socially important behaviours in meaningful ways.   ABA in the treatment of autistic children provides an intense, highly structured  education based initially on a one to one teacher/pupil ratio.   Each child has individualised programmes to address and build on identified skills and deficits.  Small segments of learning gradually build up into an understood and meaningful  "whole".   Gradually, children learn to focus their attention, to concentrate more effectively and thus to learn more easily. 

Woodbury aims to make available to the autistic community of NSW teaching strategies, that are scientifically proven to maximise the likelihood of children with autism reaching functional adulthood by:

- Establishment of an educational facililty for children
- Replication of that educational facility throughout NSW
- Educational outreach services for the rural autistic community
- ABA/behavioural management training facility for educational professionals and caregivers
- Web based information site detailing current management methods relating to autism
- Research into the relative effectiveness of various teaching modalities
