Mater Dei Catholic Primary School Blakehurst
Mater Dei is a Catholic systemic school within the Archdiocese of Sydney. The school draws most of its students from the immediate area of Blakehurst, Carss Park, Connells Point, Carlton and Sylvania. The school caters for boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 6 and has an enrolment of approximately 390 students.
Students attending the school come from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities. The different ethnic backgrounds which our students represent bring vitality to our proudly multicultural community.
The school employs 32 staff comprising 27 full-time and part-time teachers and 5 non-teaching staff, including teacher’s aides and general administrative support.
Mater Dei Catholic Primary School was founded by Fr Michael Kennedy in 1960. Lay teachers staffed the school when it was first opened and until 1964, when the Sisters of St Joseph took over the administration of the school. They maintained a presence in the school until 1979 when lay teachers again staffed the school.
The refurbishment of playground spaces to enable creative student play will be a whole-school priority for the next few years. This project has been actively supported by the parent community, both financially and also with their expertise and effort.
Before and after-school care is provided on site five days a week from 7.00am to 6.00pm.
